19-year-old beaten to death

Three 17-year-old boys upset over a 19-year-old boy’s refusal to provide them money to buy a car, beat him to death in Misato, Okinawa City, on Friday. According to Okinawa City police investigation, three boys, two high school students and one a part-time worker at a gasoline stand, had called 19-year-old Yuichi Moriya to join them for a party in a deserted house in Misato. The house had been a hangout for the youths for some time. After Moriya arrives the three started harassing him about money to buy a car. Investigators say that the three had apparently pressed Moriya to get money from his father fort he car for some time, but the father had refused. The three boys told investigators that they got upset and started beating Moriya up. They also said that they had been drunk when the beating started.

The beating went on for two hours during which they kicked him on the head and stomped on his stomach. As they noticed that Moriya did not respond any more they tried to revive him and give him water to drink, but as they realized that he was dead they left the corpse in the house and escaped.

A woman living in the neighborhood discovered Moriya’s body next morning and called the police. An autopsy revealed that Moriya had died of massive internal injuries resulting the loss of blood. Based on witness accounts of several people in the neighborhood who had seen the three in the house before, police was able to apprehend the boys within hours. Because they are minors under Japanese law their names cannot be published.
