Island Market Classifieds via Cell-PhoneBy: David Knickerbocker Date Posted: 2003-10-18   The new system is so easy to learn, you’ll be searching our database of classifieds in no time. The first thing you need to do is to type the URL stated into your mobile phone using your phone’s built in internet function. If you have not subscribed with your cell-phone vendor to have web surfing capabilities installed, you may not have this option. However, if you are able to do so, manually type www.japanupdate.com/cell wherever the option for doing so is located. Then, push the button that tells your cell-phone to pull up the typed URL. As soon as the first page of the classifieds comes up, be sure to set a bookmark on your phone. This will allow you easy access to our classifieds without the hassle of having to type our long address in your phone with your thumb every single time. On the first page of the classifieds, please choose your desired language. If you intend on typing an ad in Japanese, choose the bottom link. Otherwise, choose English. On the next page, choose whether you would like to post a free ad or search through our database of ads. Our visitors submit about 1,200 ads per week on average, and you can access every single one on your cell-phone. If you chose “Search Ads”, the next page will show a drop-down menu that allows you to choose your ad-type. Be sure to click this, and then choose your desired ad-type. You will know that your selector is over the drop-menu if the menu becomes highlighted. After choosing your ad-type, move your selector to the “Go!” button and push it. The next page will show your result. You will be able to browse through your results on several pages with five results per page by clicking the “Next” and “Prev.” links. If you scroll down to the bottom of the search page, there is another link that says “Search Again.” Click this link if you would like to search another category or would like to post an ad. On the main search form, there is a link at the top that says “Post an Ad.” You can click this anytime to go to a simple form for typing your ad. If you click this link, you will see another drop-menu that says, “Choose Type.” Click this and choose the type of ad you would like to post. Next, there will be a text-box below. Click this and type the message of your ad. Finally, scroll down to the “Go” button and push it. Your ad will then be inserted into our database and will be validated by our webmaster soon after. Please do not submit business ads on our cell-phone pages. We currently have no means to accept credit card payment over cell-phone, but when this becomes available, we will include this feature into our system. If you would like to post business ads, please do so online at www.japanupdate.com/classifieds/english with your PC. Only post regular free ads with your cell-phone. Also, some phones may not be able to access our classifieds. During debugging the new system, we found that a few older models of AU and I-Mode phone were unable to access the cell-phone classifieds, but 8 out of 10 models had no problem. If your cell-phone is more than a year or two old, you may need to upgrade if you wish to access our classifieds via mobile phone. Though the system may be a little tricky at first due to the fact that many of us hardly ever (if ever) use the built in internet functions on our phones, you’ll soon find that the cell-phone classifieds are fairly easy to use and navigate and are extremely useful and convenient.
