Choshin Taira of Ogami Village displayed a burst of speed in the final three kilometers, and another in the last two hundred meters, to overpower three other leaders to win the Okinawa Marathon in a time of 2 hours 28 minutes 57 seconds. He outdistanced Hiroshima Prefectureís Noboru Kubooka, who won both the 2008 and 2009 Okinawa Marathons. Taira led the pack of 11,253 runners who started competition.
