Fresh and organic equals 'Thai's Heart'

Date Posted: 2010-03-04

It’s all about freshness at Jai Thai, Okinawa’s premier Thai restaurant now celebrating its tenth anniversary serving the local community.

Jai Thai mean’s Thai’s heart in the Thai language, and the heart of Jai Thai’s cooking are fresh, organic vegetables and spices grown to the restaurant’s meticulous specifications by Onna Village farmers. Thai cooking draws on lemon grass, coriander and baimakuru to transform simple dishes into award-winning cuisine at Mihama’s Jai Thai restaurant, the very first restaurant in Japan to win the Thai Prime Minister’s award.

As part of its anniversary celebration, Jai Thai is coordinating with the Thai government’s sponsorship of a “Thai Select Spring Week” March 18th ~ 27th, recognizing customers by giving out prices including real Thai spices, herbal soaps, Thai guide books, Jasmine rice and more. The Thai Select Spring Week is a preview of the Jai Thai 10th Anniversary celebration in May.

There’s much more to Thai foods than meets the palate. Many people mistakenly think Thai food is only spicy hot, but that’s a misnomer. Thai food is prepared in a way that you’re in the driver’s seat choosing the degree of spiciness you like. Unlike many other cuisines, the flavors of Thai foods are not altered by the varied degrees of spiciness. Simply stated, Thai food is not only delicious, but it’s good for your body.

Jai Thai’s manager has a motto spelled out to first timers: “You don’t know what you’ve been missing” as he offers plenty of suggestions about choices while taking time to talk to customers. The restaurant operates under the skilled supervision of a leading Thai chef, preparing authentic Thai dishes that capture the essence of the southeast Asian flavors. Jai Thai offers more than 60 appetizers and entrees.

Jai Thai, located on the second floor of Carnival Park in Mihama’s Ferris wheel building, is open year-round. Jai Thai is open Mondays through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch, with last order at 3 p.m., and for dinner 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. with last order at 10:30 p.m. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with last orders at 10:30 p.m., on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
