Restaurant offers different fare

Date Posted: 2002-11-09

There is a new restaurant that has opened up behind Johnny's Used Cars on Highway 58 right across from the Camp Lester gate called the Pub Lounge. What is significant about the place is that it is a Japanese owned restaurant, and they have given us the use of the premises every Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. During that time there is no smoking policy in effect. There will be gospel karaoke, and live singing by group AT ONE. This is the first time that an Okinawan restaurant has been willing to do something like that.

This is a great time for you to take your family out to eat without having to worry about someone smoking and drinking over your shoulder. It’s truly a place you can take your whole family, and have a good time, with a nice setting and great music. Only gospel music will be played, and only gospel music will be sang live.

The five members of AT ONE are servicemen and women from Army, Air Force, and Marines. Mr. Utaka, the owner of the restaurant is doing what we have not been able to get our military restaurants and establishments on base to do. There are jazz nights, reggae nights, and other special events on base, but no gospel night. Mr. Utaka is opening his restaurant on every Sunday two hours earlier than he normally does in order to accommodate the performances. In exchange the band members guaranteed that the people would come, and they have been. The event has been on only a couple of weeks, but the signs are good that the night will be a great success. Organizers are alo open to open to any suggestions from patrons. All pastors who come out will receive a ten percent discount courtesy of Dathan Boyd of AT ONE.

”The Okinawans love gospel and we love to share it with them,” Boyd says. “We have been invited to sing at numerous Okinawan Christian weddings and last month we were asked to sing the entire month at the Manza Beach Hotel Resort.” For more information call Dathan at 090-1945-5461 or the Pub Lounge at 926-4141.
