Bag discovery triggers bomb threat at Camp McTureous

Date Posted: 2010-03-04

The U.S. military and Uruma City Police were quick to respond Monday to reports of an unattended red color traveling bag discovered laying on the grass along the fence at Camp McTureous, leaving everyone to wonder if there was a bomb inside.

The bag was first discovered by U.S. military personnel, who called Uruma City police to report “something like a bomb in a strange bag.” The military police advised local authorities to be prepared for an evacuation in the event the bag contained a bomb.

American Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel responded to the incident, approaching the suspicious bag in full protective clothing. With breaths being held, the EOD specialist opened the bag and found a hair curling dryer inside, leaving everyone with a sense of relief. An investigation is now under way to determine who owned the bag and how it found its way along the military base fence line.
