Highway 58 to be widened in Ginowan-Chatan area

Date Posted: 2010-02-18

A 4,170 meters long stretch of Highway 58 is to be widened from two lanes to four lanes in an area between Ginowan City’s Isa area and Chatan Town’s Hamagawa area.

The Okinawa Prefecture Urban Project Deliberation Council made the decision in Naha City this past week, announcing plans to widen the road to four traffic lanes on both sides. The highway currently has three lanes. The request was made to the Prefecture a long time ago because of frequent heavy traffic jams in the area. The Urban Project Council says the area along Highway 58 from Ginowan City’s Isa and the Ginowan City bypass intersection to Chatan Town and Route 23, also known as Kokutai Road, is expected to experience even further traffic growth.

The South National Road Office says the construction work will be set to begin quickly.
