Jamaica's Shade headlines Club Else Mardi Gras

Date Posted: 2010-02-04

It’s Mardi Gras season, and Jamaican artist Shade is heading in to Okinawa to perform at the Authentic New Orleans Mardi Gras Ball sponsored by Syndicate Family and Club Else on February 19th.

Mardi Gras, French for ‘Fat Tuesday’, is the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is always the final day of Carnival, which began 12 days after Christmas on January 6th. It’s an important celebration in much of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Club Else considers it important on Okinawa, too.

Traditionally, Mardi Gras is a time for crowning a King, Queen, Princess and Prince of the Ball, the highlight of the celebration. The four titles will be awarded at Club Else during the Mardi Gras Ball, which is being hosted by New Orleans native MC Big Eazy. The ball won’t be as outrageous and wild as the festivities on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but MC Big Eazy of Syndicate Family promises “this event is aimed more at the elegant, historic side of Mardi Gras, so put on your best dress, ladies, and guys get your jazziest suit ready for a night of New Orleans tradition like you’ve never seen before.”

Shade will be singing her new single ‘Hot Boys’ featuring Junior Reid, and also joining her on stage are Japanese Reggae Singer MoMo and R & B Vocalist Q.T. Deejays Jam Master Hi 5ive, and Ya Boi JT and Skee, both of Syndicate Family, will be spinning the hip-hop, rhythm, reggae and a little touch of New Orleans flavor. The Syndicate Family dancers will be performing a showcase of New Orleans Bounce music dance moves.

Cajun New Orleans foods, including Gumbo with rice, King Cake and more, will be offered free. All drinks except some special cocktails are included in the entry price. Admission to Syndicate Family and Club Else’s Mardi Gras Ball is $15 before midnight at the door for men, and $20 after midnight. Ladies enter free before midnight, and pay $15 after midnight. Reservations information is available at (090) 5089-7208.
