Piccolino serves zesty pizza in Onna VillageDate Posted: 2010-01-28 ![]() ![]() ![]() At age 28, Kanesada took action, heading off to Italy to learn first hand—and with his own eyes—the art of making real pizza…Napoli pizza. On November 22nd, 2006, he returned to Okinawa and opened his own pizza place, Piccolino, in Onna near Moon Beach Resort Hotel. He’s really picky about maintaining both authentic Italian pizza taste and a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Piccolino pizza is definitely different. It’s baked in a kiln at 400 degrees Celsius, insuring the dough winds up crispy on the outside and chewy inside. The ingredients—cheese, tomato and ham—are all imported from Italy to insure Kanesada’s pizza is really authentic Italian. He says it’s a really simple pizza, but he can say it because it is simple fact. The quality of the dough, the sauces and the cheese make it special. And then there’s the Calzone, which is filled with loads of mozzarella cheese and ham. At only ¥1,250, the stuffed bread, with a touch of black pepper mixed with the ham and cheese, is loaded up with tomato sauce and it comes out like a big Italian gyoza. Pizza and calzone are baked in an authentic stone oven. Piccolino is open noon ~ 2:30 p.m. for lunch, with lunch specials featured. It is open 6 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. for dinner. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Pizzeria Il Piccolino is located in Onna Village. Take Highway 58 into the village, then look for the restaurant just behind McDonald’s on the right, just before the entrance to Moon Beach Resort on the left. There’s free parking, and take-out meals are available. Piccolino does not serve pasta, and does not do deliveries. |
