Beni-imo tart is the King at Sweets Palace

Date Posted: 2010-01-28

Okashi Goten, the Sweets Palace, is best known for its Beni-imo Tart, an Okinawa sweet potato pie.

That’s only the beginning though. All of the Sweets Palace offerings are made from Okinawan ingredients, with both the tart and Okashi Goten’s Salt Sesame Chinsuko, an Okinawan cookie, receiving the Monde Selection award for three years in a row. Entry to the Sweets Palace is free, and visitors can also enjoy free samples.

If the timing’s right, visitors can watch tart-making in progress at the factory, and Okashi Goten offers freebies at its shop on the first floor. Those dining at the Sweets Palace receive a 10% discount for dinners and sweet sets at the second floor restaurant that offers one of the most magnificent views of the East China Sea. The discount special lasts till the end of February.

Located on Highway 58 in Onna Village, the Sweets Palace is open daily 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the last order at 7 p.m. To get there, drive through Onna Village. It is located about one kilometer—two minutes drive time—past the entrance to Manza Beach Hotel & Resort.
