Microbrew beers put Helios Pub 'a step above'

Date Posted: 2010-01-21

There are plenty of places to eat and drink in downtown Naha City, but few come close to Helios Pub, which offers selections of locally brewed hand crafted beers, and a variety of tasty foods with a zesty German flair.

Helios Pub, located in the heart of Kokusai Street in downtown Naha City, is an authentic German-style pub, and the beers are no exception. Authentic is the word to describe the Hefeweizen, Pale Ale, stout, Pilsner and seasonal beers brewed by Helios on Okinawa. The exact number of beers varies as customers take advantage of the beverages offered in three different size German bier glasses, as well as in a special tasting set.

The foods at Helios Pub come in a couple categories, both of which are worthy of exploration. The appetizers are fast and tasty, and the main courses are equally tasty and a bit more filling. German sausages and bratwurst are popular, served with horseradish mustard. The 26” sausage is a particularly delicious offering at Helios. The spare ribs are another delectable pair of dishes, while others may prefer the salads, pizza or one of the Okinawa dishes such as the champuru omelet with rice.

Once settled in the pub, the ambiance of wood floors and beams, brick pillars and even grains hanging on the walls make it easy to get comfortable and much harder to want to settle the bill and leave. Helios Pub accepts Japanese yen, and also credit cards. Helios’ owners note it’s a great place to take a break during a Kokusai shopping and sightseeing adventure.
