American court metes out justice in 2007 Okinawa child beating death

Date Posted: 2010-01-21

An eight-year-old American boy died in Okinawa nearly three years ago, with medical authorities convinced he’d been beaten. The boy’s stepfather claimed the child had fallen down stairs in his Uruma City home, and the case could not be brought to trial.

An American court did, and has found Robert DeLeon guilty of murder and sentenced him to 30 years in prison. Jordan Peterson had been found wandering a street with no clothes on back in late Fall 2006, and a woman who discovered the boy called police. The boy told police “My dad beats me and I don’t want to go home.” The woman offered to buy the boy clothes, but he refused the offer, fearful of retribution from his stepdad.

Police questioned DeLeon, who insisted “I never beat my son.” The frightened youngster backed DeLeon’s claims at the time, only to be found dead six months later. An American court in Maryland indicted DeLeon for murder. The court accepted medical testimony and autopsy results that the boy’s body showed extensive signs of beatings.
