Date Posted: 2010-01-07

The sounds of New Year’s bells weren’t even faded before the Ryukyu Golden Kings pressed their way to a home court victory over the Saitama Broncos.

George Leach racked up 26 points while hauling down eight rebounds, while teammate Anthony McHenry scored 15 and added another 15 rebounds to the cause in a 77-66 win. Luck didn’t hold Sunday though, as the Broncos edged Okinawa’s Kings 77-75 in overtime.

Okinawa’s now 17-5, the leaders of the Basketball Japan League’s Western Division, while Saitama falls to 9-11.

Elsewhere in the league, The Toyama Grouse scored an 86-79 win over the visiting Niigata Albirex BB, only to lose 87-69 in the second match of the weekend on Sunday. Toyama’s now 9-11, while Niigate is even on the year at 10-10.

The Rizing Fukuoka held a steady lead throughout Monday’s contest en route to a 76-74 win over the visiting Sendai 89ers. Kohei Mitomo and Michael Parker each scored 24 as they improved to 8-5 at home, and moved to a 16-9 season record. The 89ers are now 12-9.
