10,000 Eisa dancers perform in Naha this weekend

By Bill Charles The islandís largest Eisa festival heads to a crescendo this weekend, when some 10,000 dancers of all ages will fill Kokusai Street to perform in front of tens of thousands of spectators. The week-long summer festival Naha kicks into high gear tomorrow afternoon, picks up even more speed on Saturday, and moves to the climax with a four-hour parade Sunday with those thousands of dancers converging from across Okinawa.   Read More!

Tug of war, dragon boat races top weekend action

A five-ton rope offers the challenges in Yonabaru this weekend, while muscle power is also the order of the day at Nago Cityís Dragon Boat races. The two-day Yonabaru Festival begins Saturday with traditional summer music, dance and plenty of food, while a 400-year tradition is continued Sunday afternoon with a Tug-of-War.   Read More!
