Noise data tests conducted near Marines’ Camp Schwab

Date Posted: 2009-09-10

American Marine Corps helicopters conducted special flight surveys over Camp Schwab in northern Okinawa yesterday as part of a project requested by Okinawa’s governor.

Two CH-53 helicopters flew a variety of profiles to provide noise signature data for U.S. and Japanese noise survey teams. Governor Hirokazu Nakaima had asked the Marines to fly the special missions to gather the noise data. The flights were conducted in the vicinity of the Futenma Replacement Facility Construction Project.

The U.S.-Japan Alliance, with the U.S.-Japan security arrangements at its core, says the military, is the indispensable foundation of Japan’s security, which contributes to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. Flight and ground operations, the Marine Corps says, “are conducted with as much sensitivity to local concerns as operational requirements allow.”
