Prefecture pitching its new IT Shinryo ParkDate Posted: 2009-05-21 The IT business center in Uruma City was designed to be a central hub for new IT businesses, but thus far, Okinawa Prefecture has had no luck in luring businesses to the site. The cash-strapped Prefecture is now appealing to businesses to lease the land and build their own buildings in the IT Shinryo Park, citing a lack of cash for building construction. The current concept is to have a land leasing company rent the property and construct the buildings in the park, with Okinawa Prefecture involved in the rental fees. The Prefecture says it doesn’t want to pay for construction work before businesses apply to get in. Businesses, on the other hand, want the Prefecture to take the initiative, saying “if the Prefecture can support the rental fee to IT related companies, we will think about coming there.” The Prefecture will have ceremonies next month to mark the beginning of construction in the IT Park’s A-block. The Prefecture hopes to lure enough companies to the 17.4 hectares park to provide jobs for 8,000 people. Discuss this story: Click here to discuss this story on our forums. communityentertainment
