Bullfights, live music, Bonsai highlight Uruma City Festival

Date Posted: 2008-10-16

Bull fights and a Banquet for the Dragon God open and close the third annual Uruma City Festival this weekend, with the Miss Uruma City Pageant finals tucked in the middle.

The two-day festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with a Bonsai exhibition at the Uruma City Gymnasium. The bullfights begin at 12:45 p.m. at the Ishikawaa Multipurpose Dome. It’s a home-grown festival, with most of the artists and performers drawn from the city’s ranks.

Entertainment begins at 3 p.m. with a high school band performance, and rolls into a variety of live musical acts. The crowning of Miss Uruma City takes place at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday begins with the Bonsai exhibition, followed by a morning tournament. Dances and folks songs fill the air during the afternoon, leading to opera and eisa dance at 6:10 p.m. The Banquet of the Dragon God begins at 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks cap the Uruma City Festival activities at 8:50 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
