Supermarket chain confesses falsifying food expiration datesDate Posted: 2008-10-01 Her complaint to management of the Town Plaza Kanehide Mihama Branch brought immediate action from the supermarket chain, which launched an investigation at each of its 62 branches. Stunned by finding a July 29th expiration date on the package, she complained, and the store said “Sorry. We didn’t know about this expiration date.” Kanehide explained that expired foods are removed from store shelves and sent to a warehouse for disposal. Apparently, an official said, “somehow somebody mixed the outdated items with new foods.” Kanehide officials are double checking each branch, checking fresh and perishable foods, including juices. The supermarket chain says it is not checking canned foods or dry goods for expiration dates. Discuss this story: Click here to discuss this story on our forums. culturegourmethealth
