Senega Island to house new hot springs & hotel complex

Date Posted: 2007-12-06

Senega Island, once home to an American military installation, is soon to be the setting for a new hotel and accompanying hot springs spa complex.
Itoman City has approved a contract with White Bear Family Group, ZEO, to build the 122-room hotel and the spa and baths facility on Senega Island. Senega is located in Tomigusuku City, near Naha International Airport.
Houmei Kinjo, Itoman City’s mayor, says ZEO and the city have agreed to renting 30,000 square meters of land on the island, with ZEO paying ¥100 million for rent and the hot springs. Itoman City owns the rights to spas. Kinjo says the company will try to hire local citizens as employees at the new hotel.
Senega Island was returned to Itoman City in 1977, after decades as a U.S. military base. Many companies have been vying for rights to establish businesses on the island. Mayor Kinjo says “I’m so happy to have this project and company here, because it will bring a lot of tourist to the island.”
