Philippine culture at work and playBy: Kotoko Chinen Date Posted: 1999-08-27  The young group performed a traditional Philippine folk dances, including the all-time favorite ‘Tinkling’ or so called “Bamboo dance,” for close to 60 minutes before a most appreciative audience. The Philippine Culture Association consists of first and second generation Filipinos living in Okinawa. Masayuki ‘Joe’ Chibana, the president of the Philippine Culture Association, began the organization as a dance troupe five years ago. Over the time, he’s put a lot of time and effort into not only sharing traditional Filipino dance in Okinawa with locals and foreigners alike, but also for supporting less fortunate children in the Philippines. The Philippine Culture Association is happy to perform at welfare facilities, festivals, and even private wedding ceremonies on the island.
