Senate panel cuts more Guam relocation fundsDate Posted: 2010-07-23 The Senate move, which cut the proposed budget 70%, comes on the heels of a House of Representatives committee that did the same thing. Three of four Congressional panels screening and studying the budget for the Okinawa-to-Guam move have now cut the requested funds. The funding request was part of an amendment to the defense authorization bill covering October 2010 through September 2011. The House panel had cut the plan by 61%, or $279.2 million. The funding is necessary for the project, which links relocating Futenma Marine Corps Air Station from Ginowan City to northern Okinawa with the Marines transfer. The agreement on the move was accomplished in 2006, and is supposed to be completed by 2014. Discuss this story: Click here to discuss this story on our forums. culturegourmethealth
