Musix 2010 opens its March performances this weekend

The Okinawa International Asia Music Festival kicks off this weekend in downtown Naha City with ceremonies and musical performances that continue through March 28th.

A series of 18 live performances featuring more than 150 groups begin Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies and performances at the Okinawa Kenmin Square in front of the Prefecture Office Building in Kumoji, at the park-square in between the offices and Palette Kumoji. Jazz and Salsa are in the initial 5 p.m. ~ 8 p.m. concert lineup.

The Musix 2010 activities actually begin Saturday morning with exhibitions at the Okinawa Prefecture Museum Art Museum in Omoromachi in Naha. The program runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. a Taiko Drum Workshop at the Okinawa Prefecture Museum Art Museum runs 12:45 p.m. ~ 4:45 p.m. The workshop is free to the first 30 participants. At Koza Music Town in Okinawa City, Heat Up ‘Musix’, another free event, starts at 6 p.m.

Sunday events begin at 10 a.m. with the Japanese Song Festival in Okinawa at the Okinawa Prefecture Museum – Art Museum. The event runs to 5 p.m. A Voice Workshop begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Museum, and a Songs of Asia concert starts at 2 p.m. at the Museum. All events and performances are free. Okinawa Folk Entertainment entertains at Okinawa Kenmin Square in front of the Prefecture Office building beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the Okinawan Folk Song-Shimauta Pops concert runs 4:30 p.m. ~ 7 p.m. at the same location.

Musix 2010 continues next Saturday and Sunday, and March 20th and 21st. The Grand Finale event is on Friday ~ Sunday, March 26th ~ 28th.
