Window from U.S. Marine chopper falls into ocean
window of a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter from MCAS Futenma fell into the ocean some
eight kilometers east of Okinawa main island Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Okinawa Defense Bureau, the window of the CH-53E large transport helicopter landed in the ocean but there has been no reports of damage. The plastic window is 58 cm wide and 47 cm high and weighs about one kilogram.
A previous similar incident occurred in Dec. 2017, when a window frame fell from a same type helicopter onto the playground of an elementary school just outside the MCAS Futenma.
