One of Okinawa’s most fun and unique summer event starts this Friday, when the Ryukyu Night Festival 2019 at Murasaki Mura theme park in Yomitan Village lights up hundreds of lanterns to showcase the culture of Okinawa in a genuine old-style Ryukyuan setting.

Ryukyu Night Festival takes place on weekends through August and September.

This fantastic summer event takes place on weekends through August and September, Besides a display of hundreds of different-style colorful lanterns and other delightful sights, there are delicious foods and great entertainment, including traditional Eisa every night.

Visitors can also rent a Yukata, a.k.a. the summer kimono, for an opportunity to really get into a festive mood. The rental package includes a professional dresser to put this traditional garb on you correctly to wear while you visit the park. This is a great way to make unforgettable memories, and awesome photos to share!

Fluffy and delicious shaved ice, Okinawa Soba noodles and more are served within the park at the Ryukyu samurai mansion Janatei. The restaurant is open from 5 to 10 p.m. The last order is at 9:30 p.m.

The festival runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only from Aug. 2 (Fri) to Sep. 22 (Sun) at Murasaki Mura (1020-1, Takashiho, Yomitan Village)

Murasaki Mura is open every day from 9 a.m. but the lanterns are lit up at 6 p.m. and turned off at 10 p.m. The last entry to the park is 9:30 p.m.

The admission for adults is ¥600; for junior high and high school students ¥500, and for elementary school students ¥400. Children six years of age and younger are free.

■Yukata Rental

The Yukata rental package includes a professional dresser to put this traditional garb on you correctly to wear while you visit the park.

For One Person from ¥3,500 (incl. tax). Rentals are available from 5 to 8 p.m. and the yukatas must be returned by 9:30 p.m. The rental includes Yukata, obi sash, geta footwear, and fitting. Yukata Set tickets are sold together with the admission at the entrance. After purchasing the ticket, present it at the Yukata Booth to register and reserve the time for dress-up.
