AEON Rycom Mall opens expansion
Okinawa’s largest shopping mall, the AEON Mall Okinawa Rycom, held a renewal opening ceremony Friday to mark the opening of an eight thousand square-meter expansion of the mall’s shopping area that houses 16 new tenants. The expansion also means that the Rycom Mall will keep the distinction of being the largest on Okinawa even after the new San-A-Parco Mall opens in July in Urasoe, on a landfill outside Camp Kinser.
The expansion at the Rycom Mall was built on the basement indoor parking area. The new tenants include sunglass shop Ray Ban, Uniqlo clothing store, Total Therapy, Tully’s Café, and Okinawa Gardening, bringing the total number of tenants to 240.
At the same time, the mall is focusing more on serving customers from overseas. All signs throughout the mall are now in multiple languages including English.
Attending the ceremony, Kitanakagusuku Mayor Kunio Arakaki remarked how happy he is to have the mall in his municipality. “I’m so happy that this mall is doing good business and growing. I believe the improvements will make this mall more popular with tourists, and Kitanalagusuku and the mall can grow together,” Arakaki said.
