Michi-no Eki Kyoda to get facelift, more parking
The North National Highways Office announced Mar. 1st a plan to renovate “Michi no Eki Kyoda” on Highway 58 at Kyoda, Nago City, to respond to demands of an increasing number of visitors and alleviate congestion in the area.
The main points of the renovation plan include drastically enlarging and improving the parking areas, establishing a new information terminal and setting up an observation deck overlooking Nago Bay.
The construction is scheduled to start from the 2020 fiscal year and the renovation work is scheduled to be complete in summer 2021.
New parking lots will be constructed on both sides of Highway 58, expanding the parking capacity from current 160 to about 250 slots.
The plan also includes building a bus stop for highway express and airport shuttle buses.
The observation deck will be built on the rooftop of the information terminal, and the restrooms and tourism information center will be expanded, especially to accommodate the needs of foreign tourists.
A passageway will be constructed to connect the facilities to both the ocean and mountainside parking areas.
The construction plan also includes eliminating the traffic light in front of the Michi-no Eki and building ramps from Highway 58 to and from parking areas.
