Uruma City Tourism and Product Promotion Fair Feb. 16 and 17.
21 shops and companies are scheduled to showcase and sell their products and services at the Uruma City Tourism and Product Promotion Fair slated for Feb. 16 and 17 at the Ryukyu Shimpo Head Office building in Naha.
Items on display and sale include mozuku seaweed, awamori made in Uruma City, sweets, handicrafts and locally grown fresh vegetables. Events and demonstrations are also scheduled to appear at the venue each day, such as making ‘Tonbo-dama’ glass ball bracelets. Visitors can try their own hand at making the bracelets for ¥500 at a special booth.
Local Uruma City hero character Urumah will take the stage on Feb. 16th to show how his trademark Urumah-dance is properly done. Kids visiting the venue are welcome to join the fun on stage starting at 10:30 a.m.
Uruma City is famous for hosting one of the busiest bull fighting arenas on the island, so it’s appropriate that a real live fighting bull will be at the venue on Feb. 17th. Visitors can touch and take their photos with the giant, although organizers warn that the event might be closed short if the bull becomes nervous because of the crowds.
Another Uruma City’s local hero, Waidoh, is scheduled to be on stage and dance the Waidoh-dance with local kids.
The fighting bull will appear at noon and Waidoh show starts at 1 p.m. on Feb/ 17th.
Miss Uruma is also scheduled to be at hand to present Uruma City’s special cookies to the first 100 visitors on each day.
Uruma city Tourism and Product Promotion Fair takes place on Saturday, Feb. 16th and Sunday, Feb. 17th at the first floor of The Ryukyu Shimpo Main Office (1-10-3 Izumizaki, Naha City). The event starts at 10 a.m. on both days and runs until 7 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday. The admission is free.
