Kouri Island off Nakijin to have hotel on old school site
A new condominium type hotel “Coldio Ryukyu Terrace & Villas Kouri” on Kouri Island off Nakijin at the site of former Kouri Elementary and Junior High School is scheduled to open for business in March 2020. The school was closed 1n 2013.
Chairman Yuji Yokoda of Coldio Nakijin Resort, the operator of the hotel, held a press conference at the Nakijin Village Office on Nov. 1 explaining the project.
The hotel plans consist of 14 one-story house units and 30 maisonette-type units. Each unit is about 100 square meters in size and can accommodate up to eight persons.
The hotel will also have a chapel, pool and “Regional Exchange Space” that is envisioned to be used for social events of local area residents.
The old school building will be torn down within this year and the hotel construction work begins in January 2019.
Bookings for the new hotel will start from January 2020 through hotel booking websites and tourism companies.
The total construction cost is estimated to be about ¥2 billion.
Coldio Nakijin Resort Chairman Yokoda pledged at the press conference to give preference to people from the local area when hiring staff for the new hotel. Nakijin Village Mayor Haruki Kyan promised that, “The hotel will match harmoniously Kouri Island’s landscape and ocean view.”
