Potluck party in Nago to celebrate World Uchinanchu Day
The World Unchihanchu Day is celebrated on Oct. 30th. It was established in 2016 and Andres Higa, a second-generation Okinawan emigrant from Argentina and Andres Isa, a third-generation emigrant from Peru, both currently in Nago, are ready for it. “We are wishing that all world Unchinanchu join together to celebrate this day and help to make this world a better place,” they say.
The two are organizing a home cooking potluck party to mark the day with the Nago City International Friendship Association. The home cooking fair will feature foods from Argentine, Spain, Peru, Thailand and Taiwan, all cooked at homes of association members. The party is an annual event of the Friendship Association and will take place on Sunday, Nov. 4th, from noon to 3 p.m. Tickets for the party are Tickets for the party are ¥1,000. Everyone is invited regardless of race or nationality and whether they are emigrants of Okinawan descent, local residents or just visiting the island does not matter. Just being proud of and interested in Okinawa is enough.
