Eight men pretending to be police nabbed for bank fraud

Okinawa Prefectural Police Second Investigation Division and Tomigusuku Police arrested eight men, including 33-year-old Shogo Asato, a reputed member of Tominaga-gumi, a designated criminal organization.

The men are suspected to have stolen five cash cards from a 70-year-old woman by posing as policemen and bank clerks. They then withdrew money from herb accounts in nine occasions totaling about ¥2.5 million.

Okinawa Police has not clarified if the men have admitted to the charges, as the investigation is still ongoing.

According to Okinawa Police, Asato was the leader of the group who was supervising the others. Police are continuing the investigation to the incident.
