Long lines at Don Quijote Nago store opening day
Don Quijote Co., Ltd., a major nationwide discount chain, opened its fifth branch store in Okinawa, “MEGA Don Quijote Nago Store,” in Ohkita, Nago, last Friday.
The store opening day fell on the first day of public schools’ summer holiday, and the store was full of customers. More than 100 waited in line before the store opened at 10 a.m.
The store has about 50,000 products on its shelves including products of Okinawa, water sports and camping gear. It also sells perishables and groceries, such as fish, meats, and prepared foods, as the first of all Okinawa branches.
It’s open year around from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. from Apr. through Oct. and 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. from Nov. through Mar. The store has a floor space of about 3,100 square meters.
Masaki Arima, the manager of the Nago store, says, “As the price leader among discount stores, we would like to have as many customers as possible, not only local residents, but also tourists and visitors from outside of Okinawa.”
