Body found after fire in apartment in Makishi

An emergency call Monday evening from a local resident alerted Naha Fire Department to respond to a fire that had broken out in a second-floor apartment in Makishi, Naha City Monday evening.

According to the fire department, they received a call saying “I can see smoke and smell something burning” and dispatched a fire engine to the scene. The firefighter extinguished the fire about half an hour later.

After the fire was put out, firefighters discovered a body in the house. Naha Police suspect that the remains are of a man in his 50’s who had been living in the house but whom they have not been able to contact. Police are trying to confirm the identity of the body.

Naha Police and Naha Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
