Chatan woman arrested on suspicion of arson

Okinawa City police arrested Wednesday a 58-year-old female resident of a public housing in Sunabe on suspicion of setting her home on fire. The suspected arson took place in December in one of the units in the public housing units.
The woman reportedly denies the charges, claiming, “I don’t remember.”
The woman is suspected of setting her bedroom on fire sometime between 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2016. The fire destroyed her 8.8-square-meter bedroom before the firefighters managed to put it out.
