Annual Okinawa Flower Carnival starting today

The annual Okinawa Flower Carnival 2017, is starting its 34th run today (Sat.), beginning with the 39th Motobu Yaedake Cherry blossom Festival. Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa Convention Bureau, and Mensore Okinawa Kenmin Undou Suishin Kyougikai sponsor the carnival that actually consists of many flower-related events held in 45 different locations throughout the prefecture through May 7th.

During the festival, the public is invited to take part in a photo contest with pictures of the events, flowers, and trees. The deadline for submitting entries is Feb. 5th. Starting this year, pictures from Instagram are accepted in addition to ordinary ones taken with digital and film camera and smart phones. The contest will have a total of 11 winners who will receive gifts as prizes.
