Kings split weekend for second time in row

The Golden Kings played against Shiga Lakestars Sunday and Monday in a road game in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, and ended up for the second time in a row with a spilt weekend series. The Kings have currently 7 wins and 5 losses, and are in the 3rd place in the Western Conference.

In the Sunday’s game, the Kings came from behind to win the game with 84-75. In the first half, in the beginning, Shiga’s defense worked well preventing the Kings from piling up points, and especially David Weaver, who ended up scoring a total of 16 points for his team, worked great and the game was 31-43 for Shiga after the first half.

But in the second half, the Kings worked up their defense, and managed to play their own style speedy game and caught up with Shiga at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the final quarter, the Kings continued to play well, and finally turned the game over.

Anthony McHenry scored the team-high 18 points, followed by Ryuichi Kishimoto at 16 and Shuhei Kitagawa with 15.

Things did not go as well on Sunday, as the Kings lost with 60-76. It was the first loss against an ex-bj-League team for the Kings this season.

In the beginning of the game, the Kings could not score a point until 11 minutes into the game. After the lousy start, Shota Tsuyama and Naoki Tashiro found the rhythm and the first half ended with the Lakestars leading 33-34.

In the second half, The Kings struggled against Shiga’s defense, and the Kings found it very hard to score, and the game finally ended with a big gap of 60-76. The Lakestars specifically dominated the rebound game with an advantage of 47-29. The Kings also had trouble finding the hoop with their 3-poin shots, managing to sink only 8 of their 23 attempts.

Tsutomu Isa, the head coach of the Golden Kings, said after the Monday game, “The whole game today was at Shiga’s pace, and it was all my fault. We have to search our conscience very much, and make he right conclusions before the next game.
