New MICE facility to have 72,000-square-meter floor space
Okinawa Prefecture officials presented Aug. 1st the basic construction plan of the new MICE facility to be built on a land bordering Nishihara and Yonabaru. The facility is scheduled to open in September, 2020.
The public tender for the construction project opens in October and the contract will be awarded in March, 2017.
According to the basic plan, the land area reserved for the facility is 14.5 ha, and the estimated construction cost ¥51.3 billion. The facility will have a gross floor area of 72,000 square meters, including a 7,500-square-meters multi-purpose hall, and a 30,000-square-meter exhibition hall. The multi purpose hall, exhibition hall and foyer space can be combined into a total space of 40,000 square meters that can accommodate events with up to 20,000 participants.
The exhibition hall can be converted into a huge concert venue, divided into a concert hall, backspace and product sales space. The facility will also have 20 to 30 small to medium-size meeting rooms, and parking space for 2,000 cars.
