Man arrested after crashing into scooter while DUI
Tomishiro Police arrested Ryoma Ashimine on Friday on suspicion of driving under influence and causing an accident resulting in an injury.
According to police, Ashimine was driving his car in the Ashimine districts of Naha under influence of alcohol around midnight on May 12th, when he hit from behind a scooter driven by a 19-year-old man. As a result of the collision, the man suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage and brain contusion, and was taken unconscious to a hospital. However, he gained consciousness later on the same day. According to doctors at the hospital, his injuries are not life threatening.
In addition, two women in a car in front of the scooter suffered small bruises in the accident.
Tomishiro police investigators say Ashimine has admitted driving his car under the influence of alcohol.
