As the view of both the Pacific Ocean and East China Sea from the hilltop restaurant is so nice, it was only natural that the proprietors got an idea to match that view to a likewise superior breakfast. After all, what would be nicer than start your day breathing the fresh hilltop air smelling freshly brewed coffee and digging into something delicious.

Since March 1st the Grand Blue has opened at 8:00, and one of their best breakfast dishes is the “Grand Blue Special Souffle Omelet Set” (¥1,200~¥1,300). Grand Blue Manager Masahisa Takahashi says he is proud to have reproduced the world famous French Omelet Mont St. Michelle. “I’m sure our customers enjoy our special morning menu that has this absolutely delicious omelet as its crown jewel,” Takahashi explains. Grand Blue has a variety of breakfast sets costing between ¥1,250 and ¥1,600.

To complete the perfect breakfast, one needs a cup of good fresh coffee. Coffee shop “Cafe de Colombia” is well known on Okinawa for importing its own coffee beans that it then distributes to selected cafes and restaurants. Yutaka Shirota, the owner of Cafe de Colombia has very extensive knowledge about coffee, and he travels all over the world to select the coffee beans for his business himself. He then mixes the various coffees to make just the mix that matches his refined taste.

Many well-known cafes on Okinawa buy their coffee beans from him. Shirota himself serves fresh dripped coffee and espresso from a special booth in Grand Blue, and also Latte, Cappuccino, Cafe Mocha, Caramel Mocha, Banana Mocha, Almond Mocha, Mokachino, Coconut Latte and Coffee dessert Affogado. Order options like soymilk, syrup, various flavors and ice cream complete the list.

There are not very many genuine lever type espresso machines on Okinawa, and for Grand Blue, Shirota brought the Italian ‘la Pavoni’ espresso machine to make sure the espresso is just as it should be.

So, what brought the coffee expert of Cafe de Colombia and Grand Blue together? The story goes like this.

Makabe asked Shirota to offer his coffee at the Grand Blue, even if only in the mornings. The result is that now you can get great breakfast, great view and great coffee at one place!
