However, there’s an inexpensive solution. Takikawa Kimono is a company that specializes in re-selling kimonos from rental shops and wedding halls that have been used a few times, but are mostly still in near-pristine condition, and the best of all, cost only a fraction of a new one.

Takikawa has brought its kimonos for sale at four-day annual events for many years that include a two-day sale at Kadena Officers’ Club in addition to sales at other locations.

The sale is a four-day event for the entire family or for anyone who admires the beauty of kimono. Now in its 13th year, this popular kimono bargain sale event attracts repeat visitors and newcomers alike. Including wedding kimonos, traditional silk kimonos and washable varieties as well as obi and kimono sets for children, a large selection of second-hand kimonos and accessories will be for sale at bargain prices starting at ¥2,000.

The sale takes place at three locations, Kadena Air Base Officers’ Club and Saion Square Cargoes in Naha City, on Oct. 9-10, and at the Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan City on Oct. 11-12. At Saion Square Cargoes and the Okinawa Convention Center, visitors can enjoy demonstrations on how to wear this beautiful Japanese garment presented by the founder of the Sakura Bisou Kimono School. Admission is free at all locations.

Credit cards and U.S. dollars are accepted for payments at all locations.

The sale at Kadena Air Base Officers’ Club is on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10 from 9:00-18:00 (Fri) and 9:00-17:00 (Sat).

The sale at Saion Square Cargoes 2nd floor event space takes place on the same days Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10 from 10:30-19:00 (Fri) and 10:30-17:00 (Sat).

Finally, the same at the Okinawa Convention Center conference room A-2 is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, Oct. 11-12 at 10:00 to18:00 (Sun) and 10:00-17:00 (Mon).
