Several Miyako officials nabbed for DUI offenses
A rash of drinking and driving incidents is plaguing civil servants of Miyakojima City, as they have been charged one after another for DUI offenses.
In the latest incident, May 25th, a 37-year-old staff member of the Miyakojima City Fire Department Headquarters was arrested on suspicion of driving under influence.
According to an explanation by the Fire Department and the City Government officials, the male staff member had gone dinking at a bar after work Friday evening. A police patrol questioned him when he was driving his car on the way home about midnight after he allegedly had a minor accident on his way home, and the police was called.
Other two civil servants of the city government were arrested on the island on suspicion of drinking and driving just last month.
