Gourmet foods competition pits local restaurants

Creativity is what a gourmet competition is all about at Naha Meshi contest this weekend.

The 4th Naha Meshi Grand Prix is the latest of the popular cooking events to be held this weekend, with nearly two dozen Okinawa restaurants bringing their chefs and special dishes to compete for best foods honors.

Organizers expect up to 30,000 people to come and all to have great time.

The gourmet competition Saturday and Sunday at Onoyama Park’s sub athletic field in Naha City will see 20 restaurants in Naha area will gather and compete for the grand prize chosen by people’s vote.  The organizer expects 30,000 people to come to the Meshi Grand Prix.  Admission is free.

While the chefs entertain and the foods cook, there’s also a series of dance and music performances to take place. The event tie-up with the Okinawa International Movie Festival scheduled at March 25th through 29th in Ginowan.  There will also be various attractions for children.

There are no parking spaces at Onoyama Park, and visitors are encouraged to use the public transportation systems.  Paid private parking lots are available in the Tsubogawa and Oroku areas.
