Two injured as shutter at store entrance falls

Two elderly female customers were injured when a shutter at the entrance of a supermarket suddenly fell down and hit them as they were entering the shop in Gibo, Tomigusuku, Friday morning.

According to Tomigusuku City Police, the two women were entering the shop as it opened for business. A 62-year-old woman suffered a spine injury, and another 84-year-old woman had a gash on her head. Both were taken to a hospital but their injuries are not life threatening.

Investigators say a staff member of the supermarket pressed the button to open the shutter as usual, but the shutter suddenly fell down while it was rolling up. Further investigation found the chain pulling the shutter up had snapped causing it to fall.
