Okinawa sees largest increase in number of travelers
According to the Japan Government Tourism Agency numbers released over the weekend, the number of travelers to Okinawa increased 33.4% in 2013, marking the largest increase in the nation.
Tokyo received the largest number of visitors followed by Hokkaido, Osaka, and Shizuoka. Okinawa was on the 5th place on the list that counts the total numbers of visitors, but Okinawa posted the largest growth. The increase in the number of tourists from abroad was a whopping 90.4% in Okinawa.
As reasons for the increase, officials at the agency cited increased and improved connections of new flights and airlines along with the fall in the value of yen versus other major currencies.
