Clean the beach and enjoy free concert at Irie Camp

Six hours of reggae music is coming up Sunday, and everyone on Okinawa’s invited to join in a beach cleaning event at Sunabe Baba Park an hour before the concert begins.

The beach cleaning gets under way at 1 p.m. at Sunabe Baba Park, Chatan (Map: https://goo.gl/maps/KZGLO) followed by the Irie Camp Beach Clean Reggae Festa starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
This is the beach cleaning-reggae festa’s 10thanniversary in Chatan. A year ago, more than 3,000 spectators hit the beach, and then the concert, making it one of the island’s most popular events of the summer. The popular reggae festival in Sunabe Baba Park is hosted by the Chatan Town Commerce and Industry Association. Because Baba Park is

located in a
residential area, parking is not allowed in the park’s circumference. Visitors can park at the Hamakawa fishing port and take a shuttle bus to the park. Popular reggae artists and DJs from Okinawa and mainland Japan will perform all day at the venue.
Organizers have tailored the festival to emphasize the importance of both the sea and seashore in Okinawa through music and the beach cleaning activity. It’s also a field festival on Sunday, designed to attract families as well as couples. With the rainy season already

ended on Okinawa, and the first typhoon passing by, it signals summer is really here, and promises to be a festive Sunday.
