Governor Nakaima considering positively running for third term

In his regular press conference on May 30, Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima explained about his decision on the possibility to run for the third term in the next gubernatorial election in November.

“Usually I would announce my decision in an assembly meeting. But I also might announce my decision some time in June,” Nakaima explained. When asked about his course of action, he replied, “I am currently exchanging opinions with the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito, and also many other supporters of the prefectural government ruling party.” He then continued, saying “It is possible for me to be a candidate in the election, or announce my candidacy sooner or later, but at the moment nothing has been decided.”

But according to officials close to the governor, Nakaima is positively considering to run for the 3rd term.
