Sugarcane field burns in Miyako, arson suspected
A sugarcane field was ablaze on Shimoji Island off Miyako Island in the morning of May 3.
The fire was discovered about 10 a.m. and it burned about 5,000 square meters of sugarcane and another 330 square meters of the surrounding area before Miyako firefighters were able put out the flames at 4:20 p.m. No one was injured and no other property was damaged in the fire.
According to Miyako Fire Station, this was the eighth time similar fire has occurred since December. Arson is suspected and Miyako Police are investigating whether there is a connection between the fires.
