Electricity to cost more from April

Because of the Japanese consumption tax is going up from 5% to 8% starting Apr. 1, the Okinawa Electric Co. will raise their rates as well.

A typical home on Okinawa consumes on average \7,675 worth of electricity per moth. After the increase the utility company calculates that the average electric bill will rise by \220 per month to\7,895.

For households who already have signed a contract or are continuing an existing contract, the new rate will apply from May. New contracts starting in April, will be charged the new rate from the same month.
