Kume to have island-wide WiFi

In an interview at the prefectural office, Kume Island Mayor Choko Taira promised to install WiFi network throughout the island. Two work on the network starts on the 19th of this month.

The network is intended for island residents to enhance local production and local consumption. He also said that senior citizens would be given tablet computers, which will be monitored in case something happens.

Currently 95% of Kume Island has access to WiFi, and it’s seen as a useful tool for tourists, too.
