Open House set for Global Oceanographic Data Center
Japan’s Global Oceanographic Data Center (GODAC) is again opening its doors to the public with an Open House on Saturday in Nago City.
The Open House, which runs from 10 a.m. ~ 5 p.m., is free at the GODAC, 224-2 Toyohara, in Nago City. This year’s theme is “Let’s learn the wonders of the sea and Mother Earth!” Visitors can learn more about the deep sea and their living creatures by solving quizzes and puzzles, while also experiencing operating the underwater TV camera robot Niraikanai150. Officials at the Global Oceanographic Data Center promise it will be an event children and adults can surely enjoy.
The Global Oceanographic Data Center (GODAC) was established by Nago City to attract information-related companies to northern districts of Okinawa, and to create employment opportunities and promote multimedia human resources development. GODAC is managed by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). GODAC maintains and provides digital archives, various images and other documents about deep-sea.
The public facilities are available to foster better understanding of marine science and technology.
