OIST welcomes Prof. George Iwama as Executive Vice President

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), is welcoming Prof. George Iwama as the executive president starting January 2014.
Prof. Iwama was born in Naha in 1953 to a Canadian father of Japanese descent and Okinawan mother. At the age 17 he moved to Canada. He obtained his doctorate in zoology at the British Columbia University where he taught for 15 years. Prof. Iwama is a fish physiologist and focuses on stress responses in fish.
Prof. Iwata stated that “For a top level graduate school to succeed, it needs the support of Okinawa as a whole. The graduate school should be a facility that all Okinawa citizens are proud of having here.”
